You need to cross the river twice so bring your walking sticks. This path is marked almost the whole way (only the very final part is not)
Start along the water, can make it a bit longer by following the path and not the road at 1/3. Last bit there is a path following the water back to the parking.
Borderline 'Gluggaveđur' today (-5C with cold northern wind). Boring first 30min on the road then steep incline up SW face onto slowly rising plateau towards Grímansfell summit. Great views all around as far as Þingvelli...

Get Wikiloc Premium Upgrade to remove AdsEsja is hard work, however you approach it. Today's hike started ascending Móskarðshnúkar which is unpleasantly steep for 2km, then fun but still steep with great views at the top. From there I took the Westwards path al...
(n.b. elevation gain circa + 1000m) The stats might look easy, but a hard hike due to the terrain (and on the day, wind). A mix of loose gravel on steep slopes and moss + rock on the tops made for slow progress (as show...
Small loop beneath Esja's summit. Snow on the ground and up to 10cm deep in places. Slow and steady climb up into nice shaded valley, then a left turn West to Steinn. Steepish descent in parts with good views of Reykjavi...
Nice view and fun trip. the end tho is bit risky following the road it had almost 45°slop down, specaly with the snow
The old road from Kjos to Reykjavik through Svinaskard. Today its quite rough and just about passable for big jeeps. I recommend going nort-south starting at the summer houses near where road 461 meets road 48. You ca...
Start or end at the lake or a small parking lot near the trail start close to bláfjöll. Quite a easy walk in general but a short and fairly steep point at selvogsvegur. At hliðarvatn down to the parkinglot there is a rea...
Great conditions, sunny with strong SW wind on hills. 5-10cm fresh snow in parts (dependant on terrain and wind) made for heavy walking. Head south from parking and scoot round East side of small peaks. Then straight acr...
Blikdalur-Kambshorn-Esjuberg Very nice trail from "behind" up to Kerhólakambur and then down the regular trail towards Esjuberg where we had left one car before the hike.
Partly difficult, very rocky path along the lake. From the lake there is mostly no trail and it’s a bit hard to find the way down and cross the last river.
Easy walk up, a bit steep sometimes. At the very top, take the right path up. It looks steeper but there is a rope that will help. We went down on the north side of the plateau. Maybe not easier but still OK.
Fun and diverse track, mostly down hill or flat. Took us good four hours but it was also our first mountain bike experience so...great fun anyhow!
This trail starts and ends close to the farm Stardalur. It leads to a beautiful waterfall in the river Leirvogsá. The trail is optimal for a short hike close to the city. Despite it's proximity to the city, not many peop...
Diffrent way to hike upp to Steinn just under the peak "Þverfellshorn" Great veiw from Búrfellshamar over the city and to the sea.
Nice hike to the top of Mount Esja, well signed. At Stein you can climb to the top, a bit technical, but if you're up for it, worth it on a clear day. Large parking lot at the bottom and a bus stop as well.
Within easy reach of the capital, Esja is a very popular recreation area for hikers and climbers. The best known hiking paths lead to the summits Þverfellshorn (780 m) and Kerhólakambur (851 m). Þverfellshorn is also eas...
Flat easy run alongside the sea through Reykjavik and the Seltjarnarnes peninsula. Tarmac path or grass the whole way, with a drinking fountain around 5km in. Warm day, but exposed to the wind, so bring a light windproof...
Evening hike in late April. The hike is relatively easy. After crossing the bridge the trail started to become very muddy. Awesome 360 view at the top of Stórhóll.
Josepsdalur loop attempt #2. Great hike, the terrain underfoot can be a challenge: loose stones and rock on the steepest parts with soft and sandy areas at the summit. Great views and next step would be to loop round Jos...
Great little spot but weather limited scope. 1st climb steep and second climb smoother but more exposed. driving sleet limited the walk time. N.b. wikiloc stopped recording and missed out 1/2 ofsecond climb.
sunnyday skitouring, heavy snow, melting but not frozen plates, hiking route was great - easy, skiing in upper section steep - difficult
We took the popular route but in reverse and I highly recommend that! It's easier this way and more beautiful. Later we explored a very interesting area with a colourful rocks.
