From the Loj to Marcy Dam, there is a detour near Marcy Dam that bypasses the dam. Wore microspikes the whole way.

The short trail up and the long trail down. Beautiful in October. Make sure to stop and look at the lake if you can. Some rocky portions that may be difficult for some.
Moderate to Difficult - the distance and elevation gain don't tell the whole story. You can't beat the views!!! One of the "easier" ADK46 (yea, right!).
There are many great view points during this hike. The most spectacular views can be caught from the massive boulders.
Had a hard time finding the "Balanced Boulders" - there are no signs or indications. Talked with a 'local' when coming down and found them. Wouldn't have found them without the help. Now you know where they are!

Mt Van Hoevenberg, great view of the high peaks and nice beaver pond on the way. The trail is very easy and can be done with young kids. It is well marked all the way by yellow disks, so orientation is never a problem.
