Bosque Boreal

The dominant vegetation is coniferous forest. The needle-shaped leaves of conifers allow them to withstand frost well and lose little water. Furthermore, being evergreen makes it easier for them to immediately begin photosynthesis when the good weather arrives, without having to wait for the leaf to form.

The term “taiga” is not used uniformly across cultures. In English, boreal forest is used in the United States and the boreal forest in Canada to refer to the most southern regions, while "taiga" is used to describe the most northern and sterile areas.

Lago Turgeon

In the past, this lake was designated "Lake Nigigwadinibi" by the Native Americans of the Algonquin Nation, meaning "lake of cold crystallized waters." The names of the bays and islands are all of Algonquian origin. The toponym "Lac Turgeon" was made official on December 5, 1968 by the Commission de toponymie du Québec.
