Itinerary description
Take the metro (line 3) to Alboraya Peris Algó where there are a couple of lovely outdoor cafes to have a quick drink before walking. The route starts with a stroll past the main iglesia (through the old town area of Alboraya, leading to a tree-lined park that connects after a few hundred meters with a Via Verde bike / walking path. If you were to stay on the path northward, you would eventually (in 15 km) arrive in Puçol. But, instead, after crossing the newly constructed bike / walk bridge spanning the river (Barranc Del Carraixet) take a right and head eastward along the river to your right all the way to the Mediterranean. To the left are the L’Horta Nord agricultural fields, some of them growing chufa (tiger nuts) from which the Valencia version of horchata, the Alboraya-born drink, is made. At the sea, take a left and head northward to the end of a string of Port Saplaya beaches and enter to the left through a small opening and down a few steps into the beautiful Port Saplaya marina dubbed “Little Venice.” Walk around the marina until you get to Plaza Mayor where you can choose from several restaurants with indoor or outdoor seating. A great place to finish your walk. It is very lively plaza with a lot of diners during the peak season summer months, but it’s fairly quiet in the off season as it was on this day of the walk.
