The normal way up Mt St Helens. This track and the pictures are from a November 1st hike, the first day in fall where you do not need a permit.

A great loop, to be done in August or later, as snow otherwise makes the ridge difficult, especially at the southern end. The traverse of Mt Whittier is not a trail, so route finding skills are a plus.
A superb loop. The traverse of Mt Whittier should only be done from 1 August, when most of the snow has melted, otherwise the south end of the ridge is difficult. Good trail finding skills required. The detour in the tra...
This is a simple trail that goes through an old growth forest to the base of Mt St. Helen. This trail also goes along the lahar of Mt St Helen. At .5 and 2.8 miles, there are great glimpses of Mt St. Helen. Further up gr...

A hike through superb country - we "cheated" by using two cars. Officially both trails on the Independence Ridge are closed. The easternmost of the two trails has some pretty good washouts and is probably unsuited for mo...
The initial trail is in a very poor condition, I counted 31 major blowdowns and there are a couple of 50 - 100 yard stretches where the trail completely disappears due to vegetation. The views from the Lookout Site are a...
You need a permit to hike Mt St Helens, so plan ahead. But I most definitely recommend that you make the effort to get a permit and hike Mt St Helens. The top of the mountain was already covered in snow by the end of Sep...
The best campsite in Mount Margaret Backcountry, with good access to do Mt Minnie, Mt Whittier and Mt Venus. I had planned to also do the latter, but rain sent me home a day early instead. I have a good track for Mt Venu...
A great loop! The traverse of Mt Whittier is NOT a trail and if you are not comfortable with route finding, you can loop around using the Bear Pass instead.
Peak named for Tom Duhigg (1958-2015), better known as "Tomroy" through a combination of his name and his screen name. The peak is interestingly enough higher than Mt Margaret!
Mt Venus is rarely visited, yet it is a pleasant hike from Snow Camp, we included Pt 5,207' for the views.
One of the best hikes around, if it is too long for you, aim for Harrys Ridge. If you wish to go further, aim for Mt Margaret.
Lots of woodsy walking, so not overly exciting. There is lots of blowdown on Tumwater Mountain, so it is not very interesting. The campsite at Deadman's Lake was wonderful and almost completely bug-free in mid-August.
Snowshoeing this loop meant free wandering off-trail through an area normally restricted to on-trail travel only. One of the most spectacular routes in the monument.
Excellent ridgeline to practice with some new snowshoes. Unfortunately, this day we wandered into a whiteout.
A great snowshoe loop. This loop requires some mountaineering experiences, as there are cornices and a risk of avalanches, furthermore navigation would be difficult with poor visibility.
A pleasant loop in July through October, in early July there may well be too much snow to ascend Coldwater Peak (but the rest of the loop can be done).
Norway Pass via Boundary Trail. Hot, no shade. Easy to follow. Parking with toilet. Narrow and paved road to reach the trailhead.
This trail has been washed out and frequently impassable over the past 15 years. This was also the case in 2022.
This loop has some brutal climbs. Bring lots of water and enough food. Probably better downhill trail riding as a CCW loop, unlike what we did.
This track was taken using an older Garmin Vista, and so the track is a bit skimpy between the trailhead and treeline. However, above treeline it's accurate. The climb is about 12 miles roundtrip.
Bit more difficult than usual, as the first snow of winter had left fragile snow bridges through the boulders, making postholing a very nasty possibility.
Nice hike. I wish we didn't have to hike on the rood for a mile. Start from the south end if you want to take a dip in the lake just before the end of the hike.
Measured 1 way hike back from Lava Canyon in Mt. St. Helen, Washington. Accidentally kept phone running after getting in car. Actual hike ~4.2 miles round trip
