The Classic Cadair Idris circuit from Minffordd. Ascend through the woods up to Llyn Cai. Over Craig Cai to the Summit (Penygadair). Head east along the ridge before descending back down to the woods.
From the Minffordd car park via Mynydd Pencoed to the summit of Cader Idris (Pen y Gadair). Then eastwards to Mynydd Moel, returning to the starting point via the south-east ridge of that mountain.
Similar to Alternative 1 but with a more pleasant descent avoiding the scree. Some great views of Talyllyn, the Dysynni valley and the back of Craig Cau on the way down.
One of the usual ascents of Cadair but the descent is over Mynydd Pencoed which is less frequented and gives a greater sense of remoteness.
