Transition made by car as it goes trough a rocky river bed. In our opinion it is a perfectly cyclable part and it was a pity doing it on a car.
Trip 8/7/2015. Very difficult trip with mostly unpaved roads. However strongly recommended as for the beautifull sights and nature.
In Baga gazriin chuluu mountains from a small cave to monastery ruins in fantastic granite rocks with weathering formations. Trees are aspen (Populus tremula) Hike is done in september 2018

100km of tarmac out of Khovd helped us reach Altai by evening. Had our first puncture as we pulled up in front of hotel. This fixed by the Mongol Rally repair Centre.
Finally allowed into Mongolia at 3.00pm after a 26 hour wait at the border. Only time to drive to Olgii and find a room. Quite surprised to find a section of tarmac road on the run into the town.

Increadibly windy day. I was about to give up and stay at Tsetserleg. After Tsetserleg, first real uphill. Everything paved except the pass after Tsetserleg.
First off road kilometers are VERY bad. Too sandy. Had to push the bike for a long time. Later on gets better. Should've done it another way: stay on the paved road longer, and then go straight south to Gurvanbulag. The ...

Short because of afternoon rain. Beware of muddy places, saw lots of cars stucked! Some very hard but very short hills.

Long and some head wind, but ok. Paved 100%. The town where i finished is a VERY nice one!! (at least surroundings are) Still, this was the worst day regarding interactions with Mongolian people.
