Step descent to a river crossing, facilitated by stepping stones then long ascent all the way to the lake
We had to kick steps to get through the drifts of icy snow. Then, when we were nearly back at Charlottes Pass, we found that the river was too high to cross, so we had to retrace our steps, which made for a long day.
