On this route, the Matterhorn is incredibly close. You can always see the north face of the Matterhorn as the trail heads up to Schwarzsee.
This route starts on the Gornergrat (3,089 m). The first 1,500 metres takes you into the village and along the way, you’ll find mountain lakes, local animals (marmots and blacknose sheep) and top restaurants.
This trail is suitable for both bikers and e-bikers. Most of the ascent is covered by rail, but if you want to reach the very top – the Hohtälli – you need to use your legs.
