Early start but well worth the sunrise view at the top! Welcomed by the crowd of monkeys makes it hard to have the breakfast there unless you happy to share! Technically not difficult trek, a bit slippery so good shoes...

We did this track during a sunrise tour to Gunung Batur. You definitely dont need a guide. Just follow the flashlights or this route. You can walk the same way down or again follow the crow. You cant miss the way.
Get ready for an easy ascent but turns annoying due the mass hikers line ( some very inexperienced ). Get rewarded with a nice view of the sunrise. Will recommend this trail despite the massive amount of people.
