Itinerary description

The ascent to Chimborazo cannot be done on your own and takes 2 days.

Once in the Chimborazo Reserve the route starts towards the Carrel Refuge, which is at 4850 meters above sea level.

The route on the second day is complicated, with an ascent of about 7 hours and a descent of about 4 hours.

It starts at night, because it is safer and after crossing paths of stones, rocks, snow and ice, you arrive at the rock formation of El Castillo, at 5350 meters above sea level.

The ascent is made by the glacier crest, with slopes inclined up to 40 degrees and with some icy stretches. After 7 hours of ascent, you will reach the Veintimilla summit.

You can choose whether to continue the ascent to the summit of the Chimborazo volcano, at 6263 meters altitude.

The descent can take up to 4 hours, until you reach the Carrel Refuge again.
