Itinerary description
Although there will be occasional vehicles within Windsor Great Park, it is a very cycle-friendly place and an amazing oasis of tranquility set in the heart of such a built-up area (the M3, M4, M25 and Heathrow are all less than 5 miles away). There is an estate village with a village shop, the fields are ploughed, seeded and harvested, there are woods and lakes and a school. The place is free of the creeping urbanisation that blights so much of the area to the west of London. You are allowed on the tarmac roads (and through the big green gates operated by buttons!). Signs will tell you where you cannot go. Polo matches are frequently played here. Windsor Castle was established by William the Conqueror and it is the largest inhabited castle in the world
