Itinerary description

This is NOT the easiest means of transport from Düsseldorf Airport train station to the airport terminals. That would be the "sky train", a free (no tickets) hanging monorail. This walk is for people who have an extra hour to enjoy the open air before entering the terminal building and who feel comfortable with carrying their baggage for 3.2km. My only baggage was a backpack that I carry on hiking tours, too. From km 2.0 to km 2.7 the landscape is fairly nice for being an airport environment. The starting point is shown in photo 1: at the regular train platform closest to the sky train, go south (train direction Düsseldorf, not Duisburg) until the entry of an easily visible, paved path. The route is flat, except for the ramp-like bridge over the railway (photo 2) and the 2 floors of steps to arrive at the flight departure level.
