Itinerary description
The trail crosses Karvounis mountain from south to north. It starts from the village of Pandroso moving uphill on a dirt road towards Profitis Ilias, the summit of Karvounis mountain. I would not recommend to do the trail without a GPS device. While there is marking along the way, some parts are confusing due to the vegetation. The trail is unclear and it is easy to get lost, especially in the first part, after you pass a little house with vineyards on your left and you have to leave the dirt road and enter the trail (you will see a small stream near by on the map). The part from there until you reach the dirt road needs to be cleaned. When you get to the dirt road, ascending to the top is very easy. On the summit, you'll find the chapel of Profitis Ilias and you will have a great view of Vathi northeast, as well as of the Kerkis mountain on the west. This part took me about 90 min to complete.
From there, you start descending to go to the next summit (Lazaros peak). You follow the red dots moving east-northeast on a rocky terrain. The trail again gets lost at some parts due to the vegetation. It took me about 90 min to do this part also, although I expected it to be shorter. There are some trees along the way and the last part is on a dirt road into a pine forest. The first part, however, which goes downhill (about 45-60 min) is exposed and do not expect shadow on the way. The view from Lazaros peak is also breathtaking. Ascending is a bit steep on rocky terrain.
From there, you will need about 30-40 min to get to Vronta Monastery. The trail is mainly through the forest and rather easy to follow. I did this part after the sunset, so, I cannot offer an accurate description.
I'd say you need about 2 - 2,5 lt of water, as I did not see any fountains on the way.
