Itinerary description
Waypoints
Water's Edge Cafe
Our start point at the water's Edge cafe choosen for it's excellent breakfasts and warm welcome
Cafe at the Harbour
This used to be a family own mini market but is now quite a 'posh' cafe where people often gather waiting for the ferrys. A ferry ticket office (and taxi) can be seen to the left of the cafe there's another one up the road to the right on the right.
Promenade
A popular walk way in the evenings with lots of excellent restaurants with tables out on the street.
Bus station
Yes it is a bus station! Get all your bus tickets here to Chania, Samaria, Irini Gorge etc.
Wasteland
This cut through takes you from one side of town to the other, there's some villas and some half built buildings but it is also a handy place to park your car when it is busy or you want to park it off the roads which can be very narrow
Sandy Beach Road
At the end of the cut though you reach the Sandy Beach road, cross straight over and head for the Jetee Bar.
Jetee Beach Bar
Great place for a lunch stop or early evening cocktail, lots of shady places to sit and a cool place to hang out.
Sandy Beach
Lots of brollies to hire, bars/cafe at each end and restaurants and supermarkets all along the beach front. Head back to the road if you want to walk on the pavement.
Petrakis Supermarket
One of two large supermarkets, this one is family run and has a great selection of fruit and veg.
Road back to town/ferry/promenade
This is the road back to the main shops, seafront restaruants, bars and ferry port.
Third Eye Vegetarian Restaurant
This is the only dedicated veggie restaurant so we have taken a short detour, great outside terrace with vines.
Castelo Cafe Bar
Another great place to stop for breakfast, lunch or drink, it has great views over the Sandy Beach and you can see the sunset from here.
Commercial Port
This is where the fishing boats are kept and the smaller ferries when not in service, you can walk around it.
Wooden scuptures
On the back road up to the Venetian Port, you pass the back of the Aris Hotel with some interesting bits of wood.
Road to Fort
Follow this dusty road up to the fort, you can drive up but its not a good road.
Venetian Fort
Have a wonder around the walls and the ruins there is a new information board telling you all about the fort.
Great views
From the west side of the fort you can get a great view of the town and the sandy beach and see amazing sunsets (very romantic.....).
Steps down to town
Head for the information board and you will find the steps down to town, passing a newish restaruant on the way with great views.
Road from Church
This is the road down to the 'Crossroads' where all the bars are clustered, a very lively place at night, also some shops.
