Itinerary description
The trail starts from the center of the village of Palei Pori (or Pourlia) moving uphill sometimes on a rather steep terrain. We needed 3h to arrive to the lake. There are marks on the way, so, overall it is easy to follow, although, at few parts, the vegetation makes it difficult to find the way. At some point (I think between 6,5-7,5 km), I lost the trail and wandered a bit in the forest till I find it again. Nonetheless, it is easy to move around on that area, as there is plenty of shadow and the vegetation is low.
The lake is nice and there is a kiosk where you can have a break. There is also a fountain in the area and drinkable water gets to the kiosk through a pipe.
For the way back, the trail moves between paths in the forest and dirt roads. At some point, I tried to make a detour leaving the trail, but this part is a bit steep (not difficult though) and I would recommend staying on the trail.
It takes about 3h to arrive to the beautiful village of Paleos Panteleimonas.
From there, you exit the village from the main entrance and turn right on the asphalt road. Walking uphill you will find the entrance of the trail to Palei Pori on your right after 10 min. This part will take you about 1h moving through trails and dirt roads up and down until you get to the starting point.
I would recommend at least 2,5 lit of water per person for the summer months. Most of the trail is in the forest and there is shadow. However, the first part is a bit sweat - demanding and the humidity in the forest makes it suffocating.
