Itinerary description

I took the train from Interlaken to Kandersteg, a small village nestled in the Bernese Oberland mountains. The next morning, I walked to the cable car station to begin my hike on the Panorama Trail.

The trail is a circular route that circumnavigates Lake Oeschinen, a turquoise alpine lake renowned for its stunning beauty. The hike is approximately 8 kilometers long and takes around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level and the number of stops you take.

The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, but there are a few sections that can be challenging, such as steep climbs and narrow ledges. However, the effort is well worth it, as the views from the Panorama Trail are simply breathtaking.

As you hike, you'll be rewarded with panoramic views of Lake Oeschinen, the surrounding mountains, and the Kandertal valley. The trail also passes through lush forests, alpine meadows, and past several cascading waterfalls.

One of the highlights of the hike is the Oberbärgli mountain hut, which is located about halfway around the lake. The hut offers a welcome respite from the hike, with stunning views of the lake and mountains. You can also purchase snacks and drinks at the hut.

After a well-deserved break, continue on the trail back to the cable car station. The final section of the trail is a bit steep, but you'll be motivated by the thought of a refreshing drink and a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants in Kandersteg.

* the elevation gain is around 350m (not 790m as marked)
