Itinerary description
Real walking time between 7,5 - 8,5 hours (3,5h - 4h to go up, same duration to return)
The trail starts from Nida which is located about 35 minutes from Anogia by car.
The terrain is rocky and tiring (If one is not used to walking on this kind of trails).
During winter and until April (depending on the weather) above 2000m, at some parts there is snow.
Between two slopes it might be windy, so a windstopper jacket might be a good thing to carry.
The trail going to the top (Timios Stavros) is well marked with red paint.
The way back is not marked but there are piles of stones that lead the eye to the right direction.
Bring water with you (I needed about 3 litres on a sunny April day, temperature at Nida was 15 C at 8 in the morning).
There is a well on the top with water that melts from the snow but I don't know if it drinkable.
One can use it to freshen up though.
If the atmosphere is clear, from the top all Crete is lying beneath your feet...
Enjoy...
