Itinerary description
Fabulous route. A true highlight. We actually started from our hotel in the Strechelberg (berggasthaus) and walked to the tram from there. We took the tram up to Murren and after walking about 10 minutes, I realized that I hadn't started recording the trail. The trail actually starts from anywhere in Murren, at the bottom of the Murren tram, or as I say from Strechelberg. It was a loop for us. The trail is very easy to follow. After a rise that takes you up to the Mountain View trail, the going is easy and visually fantastic of the entire North Face of the Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau range. We continued onto the North Face trail and enjoyed the information panels telling us further info about this incredible range and the climbers who explored them. We marveled at how intrepid they were! If you are intrepid, on the way down to Gimmelwald take the trail that says "danger/warning" in German. I won't spoil it by describing what is there but it was a highlight. From Gimmelwald we looped back down to Strechelberg. Fabulous day. Keep in mind that we were walking in early October with ideal weather but many of the gasthauses in the more remote areas along the way were already closed - so don't count on food and a beer stop!
