Itinerary description
The trail starts outside Kastanies. Moving east, first it makes a detour to visit the old Water mill (3 min walk on your left). Then in continues crossing the village into a trail. The vegetation is high and some cleaning of the trail would help but it is not difficult to follow. Then it turns south to a dirt road through a pine-tree forest almost until the turning point where the terrain gets rocky, dry and very interesting. Then you follow the red spots on the rocks till you get to another dirt road moving north. For a small part you will leave the dirt road on a beautiful trail where there is also an intersection to Kares. Overall, a beautiful and easy trail , mainly on dirt road inside forest, with many changes in the landscape.

Difficult
To find the trail in Kastanies was difficult. We did the tour the opposite way. At the end, after leaving the dirt road, there was no evident path and it was very difficult to find our way because there was no markings. In fact this path is not mentionned in the hiking map of Ikaria. We end after a lot of scratches near a house and we had to ask where to go.
