Itinerary description
One of the best trails I have done in Crete so far.
The terrain is mainly rocky and the landscape is wild with many changes in vegetation.
There are beautiful old chapels and churches along the way.
The view from the top of the Timios Stavros is fantastic (rocks, cliffs, sea, beautiful sand beaches and Psiloritis on the background).
We tried to avoid dirt roads whenever we could. As a result in some places we had to walk between rocks, albeit without any particular difficulty.
At some points there are fences that one needs to cross to continue (4-5 times).
A part of the route (km: 5.8 to 11 and 12.6 to 14) is between rocks on uncharted path. One could avoid in the second part (12,6-14 km) by making the same path as he/she followed to reach to the beach.
After the 14.6th kilometer the trail is very well marked with red paint on rocks.
The duration of the trail is about 6.5 to 7 hours, but it is worth spending some time to relax and enjoy the unique scenery of the Cretan landscape...
