Itinerary description
On an airport stopover (Barcelona to Madeira, via Lisboa), I did a 2h walk through downtown Lisboa, Castle and Av.Alm.Reis (not a nice touristy place) and rode uphill on Elevador da Gloria and Elevador de Santa Justa. The total distance and movement time includes the Metro rides to and from downtown Lisboa, as well as the walks between the Airport and the following Metro station, Encarnação. At about 8 a.m., on km 1 to 2.5 I had looked for a restaurant where I could eat at 12 noon, before returning to the airport at about 13h. I wanted to avoid the airport restaurants which, in most cities, tend to offer overprized meals without any local touch. On the way back, without any map of the zone, I lost orientation at the Encarnação Metro exit and mistook "Mercado da Encarnação Norte" at Praça Norte for "Mercado da Encarnação Sul" at Praça Casas Novas where I had been a few hours before. I enjoyed authentic food (a Feijoada of white beans, rice and different parts of pork) at km24.
Km 16.7 to 18.7, along a straight flat road, appear like a drunkard's walk with heavy ups and downs in the altitude profile. So my mobile phone GPS does not level out measurement errors.
