Itinerary description
Halgurd is the second highest mountain of Iraq. Or, as the locals prefer, the second highest mountain of the autonomous region of kurdistan. To reach the trailhead, a 4WD is necessary. A narrow mountain course extends close to minefields from the first gulf war.
The ascent is not difficult and quickly done since a new build course leads to a saddle at 3080 m.
The most beautiful part of the hike is the wide ridge between the two summits.
But don´t forget: There are nearby PKK-camps. Attacks from the turkish military can happen at any time.
