Itinerary description

Escarpment trail is the most popular day-trail at Bateleur Nature Reserve
Drive to Stamvrug base camp #9and park about 5 km from the entrance.
Fill up your water bottles 2 litre per person.
Check your WhatsApp and advise 083 677-6999 when you leave.
Follow the trail (“E” for Escarpment) NNE past a Waterbessie tree, then cross the East-West firebreak.
Keep on straight and after about 800 meters follow the trail West.
After 500 meters cross the game fence via the stile.
900 Meter after the stile you will descent into a foresty kloof and turn South.
You now keep on walking on the contour for about 3500 meters.
You will have a great view to the West over Klein Elandsfontein. Watch out for Kudu and Mountain Reedbuck
You will see many very large Alwyn trees all along the contour line.
Walk the contour for about 2500 meter every now and then crossing foresty kloofs.
Then turn East and find the stile back over the game fence.
Follow the fence North for about 100 meters and walk over the flat area above Kaalgat Dam for about 300 meters before descending towards Stamvrug base camp and your vehicle.
