Itinerary description
This is relatively short and easy trail which combines official and unofficial paths.
We used unofficial trail to get to Zapalo bay and official on the way back from Apollo sanctuary. The last part we already walked on the previous occasion. https://www.wikiloc.com/walking-trails/apollo-hylates-nature-trail-episkopi-69638355
We came across two snakes on our way, our discoveries defined them as vipers. They were not aggressive just lying and warming in the sun but in any case be extra vigilant in this area.
TERRAIN: red clay, gravel and asphalt roads, rocky path down to Zapalo beach which is the only major ascent on the way back, otherwise the trail is relatively flat.
One sharp descent in the wild terrain on the way to Zapalo (you’ll have to jump off a small rock).
SEASON: the trail is fully exposed to the sun. Red clay may become muddy after the rains.
SIGNS: no any signs or resting places on unofficial part, there are a few signs on the official trail.
On the sanctuary territory there is a drinking fountain and benches, as well as proper toilet.
KIDS: great for kids. We had two 3,5yo who managed the whole route.
