Itinerary description
The Northwest edge of Cretan land.
Moving time: 7,5 - 8,5 hours.
Rocky terrain.
Most of the trail on uncharted path.
There is no water along the way.
During summer one needs about 5 ltrs per person.
We parked on the side of a country road. The car (not 4x4) could go further but we preferred to walk.
We followed the road and then we turned left to follow what it seemed to be a path. It ended up inside a small gorge so we had to improvise.
Going on and off road, it took us about 3 hours until the beach where we camped to spend the night.
The second day we crossed the gorge till the north of the cape.
We climbed the hill to enjoy the view (Mpalos cape on the west and Lefka Ori southeast... If the atmosphere is clear, one can see Mount Ida (Psiloritis) far behind Lefka Ori) and wandered around the ruins.
There were some Eagles' nests inside the rocks. Really interesting watching them hanging on the air above the endless blue of the Cretan sea.
The way back is easy, as a part of it is on the road.
There is no shadow, so take precautions...
