Route without any complications to do in the summer season. After crossing the Transfăgărășan, we parked the car at the lower station of the funicular. This car park is free and, from there we buy the ticket for the climb only to Lake Balea. Here you can find timetables and prices: http://balealac.ro/telecabina/ In our case it was 35 LEI per person ...
From the cable car itself there are spectacular views of the Balea waterfall and the winding road that goes up to the lake, where we arrive in a few minutes. From there, you have to go to the right, cross the road and start the small climb that leads to the pass to the other valley, where we stop hearing the traffic.
The path is well signposted and quite comfortable: all downhill. Steeper at first and quite smooth afterwards.
In our case, we made a great stop to eat at Lake Doamnei, where the sandwich tasted great while we watched several nice burritos wallow in the dirt and eat. In addition, we also heard the whistles of some marmot, which we could not locate.
From there, and with a full stomach, we continue the descent. As height is lost, a very remarkable change of landscape is observed. From a practically bare environment, to bushes and, later, forest.
A small final slope to return to the valley from which we started, where we break the "magic" of not listening to human activity to hear the cars go by on the road again.
In the final part, just before reaching the parking lot back, we come across the river that runs down from the Balea and its waterfall. We cross it without any problem via a comfortable wooden bridge.
Enjoy it as much as I do !!
