Itinerary description
I walked this on 2019-04-08. This is part of my 4-week China walk in 2019. It continues a walk I started 2018 in Wuhan. Both times I stayed in China about 1 month with a tourist visa.
Previous day "19Xina 03AB to Shangcai 上蔡", Wikiloc ID = 35043404
Next day "19Xina 05CD to Luohe 漯河", Wikiloc ID = 35120819
Overview "19Xina 4-week walk Henan Mt. Song 汝南焦作", Wikiloc ID = 39858057
At km 27.2 I couldn't cross undter the railway lines. There was no pedestrian walk. A sign forbode pedestrians to cross. Car traffic from many lanes was compressed to few lanes here for passing under the railway, so traffic density was very high and dangerous for pedestirans. I searched for a railway crossing further north and found it at km 29.6 without making much extra distance. I was no longer on my planned route and at km 30.7 I failed to identify the point where I shoud have turned left (west). So I ended up at the river (+1 km extra north, + 1km extra back south later). Finally I passed at the pagoda, as planned (km 33.6) and continued to the hotel.
At the planned Chinese "International Hotel", first receptionists told me they were completely booked, and started explaining to me how to get to a hotel of an International brand, a bit southeast from here. But then a manager appeared and said they have a room. I took the room. 1 minute after returning from dinner in the hotel restaurant, Police nocked at my door, 3 guys in uniform and one without. They did not speak any English. I showed them my passport and a printout of my travel plan. They took photos of that and left, saying the only thing in English: "Thank you". From this point on I didn't have any problems with hotels until north of the Yellow River. And no more police visits anymore. Based on my previous year experience, at this trip I had already forseen to stay in "International Hotels" (like this one!) to avoid problems as a traveler off the typical tourist routes. I had 1 police visit in the previous' year one-month China trip - in fluent English and more friendly, in a small town.
