50% gravel, 50% asphalt
Time heals all wounds... The past few decades have gradually replaced the darkness of history - but not the memory of it. The 32.5 km long recreational trail runs where Ljubljana was surrounded by a military barrier with barbed wire during World War II.

The trail, also known as the Wire Trail and Zeleni prstan (Green Ring), is popular with walkers and joggers, but there are also numerous cyclists. Some sections of the mostly wide, easy-to-walk gravel path lead through populated parts of the city, where it is partially paved. In some places, such as on Golovec Hill or by the Koseški Bajer pond, it almost becomes one with nature, but elsewhere it also has a predominantly green character, thanks to around 7,400 trees of 50 different species that line it.

The path is equipped with signs showing its course, as well as round metal markings on the ground. The path is lined with memorial stones that mark the positions of the former bunkers.
The most popular sections of the trail are:

from Vič to Šiška (from Dolgi most to Koseški Bajer)
from Bežigrad to Žale (from the Stožice sports park to the Žale cemetery)
from Fužine to Rudnik (from Fužine Castle to Dolenjska cesta).

Every year (on the first Saturday after May 9, Ljubljana City Day) there is a hike on the Path of Memories and Comradeship, in which numerous recreational runners of all ages take part. Those who like it a little more challenging can sign up for the trio and try their hand at a 28, 12 or 3 km route (the latter intended for children), who also follow the trail.
