Itinerary description

An exploratory ride/walk up Blackfellow creek on a drizzly day. About 10km cycling from the locked gate at to reach the Top Yards. From here the road becomes progressively rougher over the next 3km until it finishes. From there we walked up the creek bed until we reached the branch that heads up to the Amphitheatre. This side branch is delightful with deep cuttings, moss covered rock walls, cascades and little waterfalls. Lack of daylight limited our progress but I will need to go back and explore it fully one day. The cycle out the next day is much easier with the downhill slope

Hey would love some more info on this!

Are the little waterfalls and amphitheater in that section where you go out west from top yards?

Only looking to do the 16km loop on foot so just trying to get a better idea of where to head.

Attempted this on the weekend. Made it a fair bit further towards the amphitheater (just based on your GPX), but still didn't get there as we had to pull the pin to avoid walking in dark. We were within 200 metres after scaling a few small waterfalls, the next obstacle was a pretty solid cliff face and we didn't spend much time investigating detours before turning around. Did you ever make it to the base of the falls?

    Hi Isaac,
I haven't been back since that trip,
I have been to the top of the falls: https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/amphitheatre-circuit-18927729
and shot some drone footage into Amphitheatre: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx_u2sTcPw4&ab_channel=MarkL
What are conditions like currently, I presume its still pretty dry?

Very dry. Still plenty of water in the creek from end of the track though, and the water through the gorge was flowing. I suspect it made the going a lot easier than your attempt. I've been planning to get to the top for a long time now...

Any recommendations for other cycle hike overnighters?

    Hi Issac,
Check out a guy called Neil Ennis - https://blog.neilennis.com/ . He has a tonne of SE Qld rides that are 'the road less traveled'

Girraween is another good place for bike hiking. There are lots of old farm tracks in the Eastern part of the park (although many are not officially sanctioned for bike use) that lead to lots of fun options. Shawn and I have done several good hik'n and bik'n trips there.
