Hello David, i would to ask you if you did the route just in one day.
Thank You!
Hi Byktor, I havent actually done the route, There is an annual run from London to Birmingham along the canal, and I used the gpx files someone posted who had run the route for creating my route. So although I have done almost all the trails I have posted on wikiloc this is one I uploaded to wikiloc so I could download it to my WIkiloc app and do the ride. The time is a guestimate based on lots of canal riding. My intention is stop half way and stay at a youth hostel. I am hoping to do the route this summer. I would definitely allow two days unless you are hardcore. I have taken part in many two and three day events and picked up medals, so I am relatively hardcore. Nevertheless there are sections along the canal (from reading other peoples reports) that are not good for cycling. I would go tubeless, as hedge cutting along the canal leaves thorny branches along the track and punctures are a big issue. Also you might want to stop and enjoy a pint at one of the pubs on the canal. If you are in good shape and have a reliable bike, you could do it in one long day. The 14 hours guestimate does not include breaks.
Let me know if you do it.
I reckon the best place to stay is the youth hostel in Milton Keynes, as it is very close to the canal.
Good luck
Hello David, thank you for the quick answer. I would like to do the route on 30th April of this year, but actually i don´t have the proper bike. If i can get a good bike i will do that, if not, probably i will do the route to Oxford as i think it would be very hardcore to do 230km with a £40 mountain bike hahhaa.
One way or another, on 30th April i will do some of that routes i have in mind, so if you want to join me, let me know.
Victor :)
Thanks for the invite. I am currently in Cabo de Gata, south Spain. I will be back in Birmingham as of early July. I love cycling the canals as there is no traffic, no roads and there are great pubs, beautiful scenery and amazing engineering.
I know where Cabo the Gata is as i am from Spain :) So, i hope you enjoy it my country!
