Eurovelo 13: Route of the Iron Curtain. 6,800 km13

From Norway to Turkey. For almost half a century, Europe was divided by force into East and West by the 'Iron Curtain', a border that stretches from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea. EuroVelo 13 - Iron Curtain Trail invites people to come back and experience this important part of the continent's history.

Countries it crosses:

Norway, Finland, Russia, Tallinn, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey.

Most of the kilometers of the Eurovelos pass through narrow asphalt tracks very similar to conventional cycle lanes. In addition, all sections have to meet a series of specific conditions:

-Do not have slopes greater than 6%

-Have sufficient width to allow the passage of at least two bicycles.

-Have an average of no more than 1,000 motorized vehicles a day.

-Be paved at least 80% of its length

-Stay open all year.

Apart from establishing the first European network of cycle routes, one of the best possibilities that in my opinion Eurovelos provide is the ability to connect with each other to create new routes or even use specific sections to complete our trips with the guarantee that They are fully cyclable paths, signposted and adapted to bicycles.
