Itinerary description

ENGLISH

I chose this place to see whales for two reasons, firstly it was cheaper and secondly it took us longer than going to Husavic. We could also have left Akureyre, but opinions were more favorable in this area given that the fjord is closer to the open sea.
The focal point for whale watching is Hotel Kaldi (65°56'42.5"N 18°21'30.3"W) in Litli-Árskógssandur. There they provided us with thermal overalls and then we walked to the breakwater of the nearby harbor where a traditional wooden boat was waiting for us and we climbed into the waters of the Eyjafjörður fiord
It seems that humpback whales have found their summer home in this fjord. We saw a lot. Calmly reviewing the photos of the queues I could see that some were repeated, but there were many different ones.
The captain from the highest point of the ship was attentive and the guide quickly told us where the whale could be seen, orienting us according to the direction of the hands of a clock.
Although the sea was not calm enough to allow a better view of the animal, we enjoyed it a lot and it was an exciting experience.
Back in port, we were treated to a steaming cup of hot chocolate and freshly baked cinnamon buns.
