Itinerary description
We start by the Bell Tower in the city center and continue south to South Gate. Here an underpass takes you across to the entrance of the city wall where you buy the 54 RMB ( € 7) ticket and go up a long flight of stairs to the wall where a 13.7 km rectangular walk awaits. It is a flat and easy walk with plenty of interesting sights and good people watching along the way. Many drink stops and info signs too. This is allegedly the largest city wall in the world dating from the Ming Dynasty in the 14th Century and built upon Tang Dynasty palace wall foundations from the 7-8th Century. The wall is an impressive 18m wide at base, 15m wide on top and 12m tall.
