Itinerary description

EN: Start: from the base of the Metropolitan Hill (Aleea Dealul Mitropoliei, București 030167)

The capital of Romania is a very large city with many areas of interest, this tour aims to present you only the oldest part of it, without claiming to cover all the tourist attractions of the historic center.

The walk begins in Mitropoliei Hill, one of the few elevated landforms in the capital south of Unirii Square. After admiring the religious ensemble we can see the Palace of the Parliament and the new huge cathedral still under construction. We then head to the Lipscani District, the historic heart of Bucharest. Manuc's Inn, the Old Royal Court, the Latin Passage, Cărtureşti Bookstore, Caru cu Bere are some of the many mixed restaurants, historical sites and bookstores on these old streets converted into the main tourist area of the city. After visiting the historic Stavropoleos church, leave the old quarter to admire some of the city's great buildings: the National Museum of History (to visit), the CEC Palace, the National Bank. After the Macca-Villacrosse passage, we climb one of the most famous boulevards of the city, Calea Victoriei towards Piata Revoluţiei, where we find the National Museum of Art and the Romanian Athenaeum (both to visit). At the end of the walk you can benefit from the shade of the historic Cismigiu Park, created in the 19th century. From here on Regina Elisabeta Boulevard we go up to University Square and get lost again on the streets of the old center where we can enjoy a well deserved break on the many terraces.
