The city of Parenzo or Poreč is a city and municipality on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, in Istria County (Croatia). Its mayor is Edi Štifanić, from the Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS). It has an area of 139 km², with a 37 km long coastline running from the Mirna River near Novigrad to Funtana and Vrsar in the south.
Its population (in 2001) was 17,460 inhabitants, residents, above all, in the outskirts, with a population density of 126 inhabitants per km². Its main monument is the Euphrasian Basilica, from the 6th century, declared a World Heritage Site in 1997.2
Poreč-Parenzo is almost 2,000 years old and sits around a bay protected from the sea by the small island of Saint Nicholas (Sveti Nikola).
