Visit the interesting Citadel of Rayen, not far from the important Iranian city of Kerman, more or less in the center of the country, although a little southeast of it. I'm afraid it's nowhere near the impressive Bam Citadel (both in dimensions and the quality of its architecture) but since the 2003 earthquake in which the latter was totally damaged, Rayen's has emerged as a minor alternative. We went up to two terraces from which good views of both the citadel and the surroundings (with some snow-capped mountains on the arid landscape) and we walked through the labyrinthine network of alleys and passageways that make up this small adobe town.

Access to this second "viewpoint" is quite uncomfortable due to the narrowness of the hole through which you have to go and the worn terrain, so I do not recommend it too much if you are not very agile.
