Itinerary description

Til að komast að Nesbjörgum er beygt af Þjóðvegi 1 inn að Borgarvirki og haldið áfram þar til stoppað er við enda bjargana. Gengið er um mikil berjatínslu svæði mestan hluta leiðarinnar en oftast um troðna stíga og klappir. Útsýnið frá Nesbjörgum er stórbrotið yfir Vesturhópið, fyrir Vatnsnes og Skaga, svartar fjörur og fjallaturnanna þrjá, Reykjanibbu, Öxl og Rauðkoll. Leiðin er fjölskylduvæn og tilvalið að ganga fjöruna beggja vegna til baka fyrir þá sem það vilja.

To get to Nesbjörg, turn off Highway 1 into Borgarvirki and continue until you stop at the end of the cliffs. You walk through a large berry-picking area most of the way, but usually through trodden paths and rocks. The view from Nesbjörg is spectacular over the Western Group, past Vatnsnes and Skaga, the black shores and the three mountain towers, Reykjanibba, Öxl and Rauðkoll. The route is family-friendly and ideal for walking the shore back on both sides for those who want it.
