Malahide (from Irish Mullach Íde) is a picturesque suburban village of Dublin City located in County Fingal (formerly County Dublin), Ireland.
The town is located 16 kilometers north of Dublin city, on the train line to Belfast. It is located between Swords and Portmarnock. It is located in an estuary, on the opposite side of what is Donabate. Malahide is one of Dublin's wealthiest suburban towns, and has an excellent marina. The name Mullach Íde in Irish means The Promontory of Saint Wrath. It houses approximately 25,000 inhabitants.
Malahide is home to the fine Malahide Castle and its gardens, once the estate of Lord Talbot of Malahide. The village grew in popularity in Georgian times as a seaside destination for wealthy Dublin city dwellers. This is evident today by the fine collection of Georgian houses in the town and along the coast. It is still a popular stop for day travelers, especially in the summer months. Malahide also has a great collection of pubs and restaurants. There is an excellent golf course nearby, and the area offers no less than 5 schools in the surrounding area, 4 primary and 1 secondary.
Malahide is served by DART, and is a growing resident town. Many of its inhabitants work at the nearby Dublin Airport.
Malahide appears in the film Yesterday's Children, in which an American housewife has dreams and visions of a church and an Irish family in Malahide. He travels across the Atlantic to where he believes he lived a past life.
