Tour during which we visit the main places of interest in Brasov, without climbing the imposing Tampa mountain, something for which we did not have time, since we would have loved to take a route through the area if we could.

The beginning of the tour is indifferent, so we will tell you the places to visit starting from the nerve center of the city:

In the heart of Brasov, the busy Town Hall Square shines like a historical treasure. To the left, the imposing building of the old town hall rises majestically. Surrounded by the old Town Hall Square (Piata Sfatului), built by the Saxons, this square is a living testimony of the city's past. The richly decorated baroque buildings capture the attention of those who visit, as if whispers of the past were floating in the air.

To reach this enchanted square, one must follow Republicii Street, a pedestrian artery brimming with life that leads to this medieval corner. The terraces and cafes along the square offer perfect seats to enjoy the atmosphere, while taking in views of the tower of the old town hall, also known as Casa Sfatului (from 1420). Inside, this notable building houses the Brasov History Museum, a chest of time that reveals the city's secrets to curious travelers.

Among the architectural jewels that adorn the square is the Trumpeter Tower, a silent witness of the Middle Ages, used as a watchtower. The Merchant's House, converted into a restaurant, and the beautiful Orthodox cathedral with its elegant arches complete the scene.

But the Town Hall Square is not only a meeting place; It is also the scene of memorable events, such as the famous Golden Deer Festival that takes place at the end of summer. In this place, where history and modernity converge, time seems to stop, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the city's past.

The charm of Brasov extends beyond the main square, weaving a network of fortifications that tell the story of the Saxons and their fight against the Turks and Mongols. The defensive walls, gates and towers, erected between 1400 and 1650, stand as silent guardians of the city. Although most of the walls were demolished in the 19th century to allow the city to expand, some vestiges survive, such as the bastion located northwest of the old city.

The Schei Gate, a triumphal arch that once marked the entrance to the Schei neighborhood from the walled city, tells stories of yesteryear. Nearby, the Weavers' Bastion stands as a monument to Brasov's medieval history. Within its walls, more than one hundred thousand ancient and rare documents, including the oldest letter written in Romanian in 1521, await discovery by curious visitors.

To the southeast of the wall, St. Catherine's Gate remains standing as the only surviving medieval gate. Built in 1559 by the tailors' guild, this fairytale tower is a reminder of the town council's judicial autonomy.

As visitors explore the steep alleys of the Schei neighborhood, they discover the charming Church of St. Nicholas, a true architectural masterpiece. Its towers and walls tell stories of times gone by, while the attached museum offers a glimpse into Brasov's rich cultural heritage.

Tampa Mountain, majestic and protective, watches the city from above. The ascent to its summit, either via the picturesque Brediceanu Alley trail or via cable car, reveals breathtaking panoramic views of Brasov.

In the heart of this enchanted city, Brasov's museums display their treasures. The Art Museum, with its works ranging from the 18th to the 20th centuries, captivates art lovers. At the Brasov History Museum, Paleolithic tools and Neolithic painted ceramics tell the ancient history of the region. And at the Ethnographic Museum, traditional costumes and silver jewelry transport visitors to times gone by.

Finally, the Muresenilor Memorial, a treasure of documents and relics that offers a unique insight into the history of Brasov, invites us to explore the events that have shaped the city over the centuries. All this, and much more, awaits those who venture to discover the hidden charms of Brasov, a city that captivates with its rich history and timeless beauty.

Palacio de Justicia de Brasov

The Brașov Palace of Justice was built between 1900 and 1902 by the former Austrian administration as the seat of the Royal Court of Brașov. For the authorization of its construction, the city charged a symbolic fee, with the condition that all existing and subsequently built buildings will be delivered free of charge to the public of Brașov. Consequently, it was decided to build the Palace of Justice, the prison and the workshops for the prisoners. The annex is the building where the central prison operated. The architecture of the Palace of Justice combines elements of the Art Nouveau style, the neo-baroque style and elements of French eclecticism. During the First World War, after the defeat and withdrawal of the Romanian army in the Battle of Brașov (1916), the German 9th Army Command, commanded by General Erich von Falkenhayn, operated here. Nicolae Ceaușescu was imprisoned from February to August 1936 in the penitentiary attached to the building. The Palace of Justice building functioned according to its original purpose until the establishment of the communist regime, when it became the headquarters of the RCP of the Stalin Region and the People's Council of the Brașov Region, later the County People's Council from Brasov. On November 15, 1987, some of the protesters of the Brașov uprising broke into the building and threw portraits of the dictator Ceaușescu at the window, and in December 1989, this was the center of the anti-communist revolution in Brașov. Between 1993 and 2020, the Brașov Court of Appeal operated on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building, with the other floors occupied by the Brașov Prefecture and the County Council.
