Itinerary description

I did this walk with the DAARA Walking Group. The Hill of Howth has many routes, which are walked by many locals and visitors. Many of the routes are already published in Wikiloc. For this walk we started at the Railway Station and walked up the route of the Howth Tram, which operated from 1901 to 1959, as far as the Summit. From there we took the route over the hill back to the outskirts of the Village of Howth. A group of us decided to take a route across a little used Right of Way to join the Cliff Walk. This has spectacular views of the islands of Ireland's Eye and Lambay, and the coast of Portmarnock and Malahide, and right up to the Mountains of Mourne. Just before reaching the village of Howth we passed Balscadden House where the Irish poet and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature lived between 1880 and 1883. This is a lovely walk, but only one of the many walks over the Hill of Howth. Highly recommended, and the village of Howth is worth a visit, with many bars and restaurants, and interesting sights. .
