Itinerary description

I've wanted to do this early morning trek with parishioners for many years but never made a concerted effort to wake up as early as it requires. I finally did this trail on Good Friday morning April 7th 2023 while following the faithful along St. John’s Road in St. Augustine up to the Abbey of Our Lady of Exile, Mount Saint Benedict. This was also the first time in three years that this e-enactment was done because of the COVID-19 restrictions.
I started logging the walk at the corner of St. John’s Road and the Eastern Main Road at 10.64503°N and -61.39580°W. at 4:00am. The path is pretty clear and fully labelled. There are 14 stations along the way up to the church with re-enactments done at every station. Lots of viewpoints with exceptional views of the plains and Central Trinidad. On clear days it’s possible to see the San Fernando Hill. This is best done early morning or late evening to minimize U.V. exposure. Take lots of water along the way and stop by the Abbey Café and sample the locally made treats and their very own hand made yogurt. There is a very good hiking trail leading to Mt. Tabor that I have logged in another trail some time ago. This can be followed and is very popular with local hikers.
Happy Trails.
