Itinerary description
Easy walk in the Sandymount recreation reserve visiting the Sandymount summit, lovers leap, The Chasm and the viewpoint.
The walk starts at the car park and goes straight to the summit. From there it starts going down towards lovers leap. You will find signposts advising of the high cliffs area. At some point you go through a fence and get into farmland. Nice views from the lovers leap.
The next stop is the viewpoint where we enjoy fantastic views of Hoopers inlet.
Next stop is The Chasm. It looks like it's not encouraged anymore to get to the Chasm. They removed the platform due to land stability issues and don't recommend getting there. You need to go over a fence to arrive to The Chasm and again when coming back.
After visiting The Chasm we go back to the DOC track and continue the circuit that takes us back to the car.
Nice walk and views recommended if you are visiting Dunedin and want to stretch your legs for an hour or so.
Keep in mind that this track is closed for lambing from 1 September to 15 October, according to the DOC site.
