Itinerary description
I started this tour from my hotel, the Sangzor Boutique Hotel, which is only five minutes walk from Registan Square. That is the highlight of this tour though I didn't go in today.
After the Square, on the right and set back near the trees is a charming statue of four Uzbek musicians. I crossed the road, made my way past the shops and cafes to the bottom of the hill, where on the other side of the road is a statue of the Samarkand tigers. Facing the tigers is a huge mural on the side of a house.
I continued the tour by walking diagonally through the park and inadvertently missed visiting the Rukhobod Mausoleum, which is free to enter.
Not far away and on the bend in a street is the Gur Emir Mausoleum. A street to the left of the Mausoleum leads to the Ak-Saray mausoleum. On my tour I forgot to visit it, but went back later. It is well worth the visit. For 10,000 som a helpful attendant shows you a magnificently decorated ceiling and will take a picture and video on your Smart phone.
I followed the road to the imposing Amir Temur statue, which sits on a short of roundabout.
I continued walking and on my right was the flagpole with the flag of Uzbekistan.
I used a footbridge to cross a road and came to round the back of Registan Square. This provided a different perspective for photos.
