Itinerary description

Are you coming to Valencia and you have not more than one day? do not worry, Valencia Home has prepared for you a basic itinerary that you must visit, the most important things thay you have not to miss in the city centre of Valencia.

We are proposing you an express and intensive route that can be made in just one morning, with the duration approximately of 3 hours and a half where you Will see the most important highlights of the city in just one morning.

Waypoints

The Bullring

We can start the route at 10.00 Am in fron of the Bullring, it is possible to visit the bullring, which is opening from 10.00 to 19.00 everyday, except Sundays, that closes at 14.00. The Price is 2 euro per person, and 1 euro if it is a reduced entrance. It takes at least 30 minutes of visit, so it includes the arena and also the museum.

North station Railway

After visiting the bullring, just close to this we find the North Station Railway, one of the oldest stations in Spain. It is terminal is monumental, with a valencian modernist style inaugurated in 1917 by "Compañía de los Caminos de Hierro del Norte de España". You can take a look inside for free. Time to visit 5-10 minutes.

Valencia Town hall

Some meters ahead we arrive to the Town Hall square, a very big square where a 20 century building with a modernist construction, and with a clock tower in the centre of the building. Inside, the reception area, assembly halls and the formidable marble stairway are worth mentioning and the great balcony covering the main part of the first floor, also the Crystal Room and Historical Museum. You can visit for free from Monday to Friday. From 8 am to 3 pm. Time estimated of the visit 20/30 minutes.

Post Office building

After visiting the town hall, we must cross trought the square to the other side and visit the Post Office Building. The construction of the Central Post Office or Correos building began in 1915 and was finished in 1922. Inside we can see it is dome and it is columns, all in a circular way. Entrance is free, time to visit 5 minutes.

Central market

inaugurated in 1928 , is one of the oldest markets still in use in Europe and has been declared a ''Heritage of Cultural Interest'' site by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. You can visit for free and the opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 07:30 to 14:30 h. Sunday closed.

Lonja of Valencia

Aftyer visiting Mercat Central, we have to go in the back side of La Lonja, where is the main entrance. La lonja de la seda is one of the most remarkable monuments of Valencia, made in Valencian Gothic style, was built in 1497. It was one of the most important centres in all around of Europe to deal with silk. Nowadays is the main tourist attraction of the city, also is Human Heritage by UNESCO. Time to visit 30 minutes. Monday to Saturday, from 9.30 am to 7 pm. Sundays and bank holidays, 9.30 am to 3 pm. Prices are €2 general, and €1 for groups, students, pensioners, large families. Free entry on Sundays and public holidays.

Plaza Redonda

Constructed in 1840, the Plaza Redonda is one of Valencia’s most unique tourist attractions due to its peculiar design. This space has become one of the city’s most wonderful areas. Surrounded by traditional craft shops and tapas bars at streets around Plaza Redonda.

Narrowest building in Europe

Just in front of Plaza Redonda we find the narrowest building in Spain (also probably in Europe) it has just 107 cm wide. Is so narrow that it has only one room per floor. Interesting facade.

Valencia Cathedral

One of the oldest cathedrals in Spain, started to be built in 1262, many years after Jaume the 1st conquered Valencia to the muslim army, and the construction finished approximately in 1356. This is one of the most important part of this tour, it worth it to visit the cathedral inside, the Holy Grail chapel and also to climb up to the top to Micalet Tower, with a very beautiful views of Valencia. Time to visit approximately: 1 hour and 10 minutes. Opening hours: - November to March: Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5.30 pm. Closed Sundays. - April to October: Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6.30 pm. Sundays from 2 pm to 6.30 pm. Prices: 8 euros for general and 5,50 euro as a reduced Price. To climb up to the tower is 2 euro extra.

La Virgen Square

After visit the cathedral, you can walk through the monumental area of Valencia, one of the most popular square where many pictures can be taken here. This is the place were Valencia was founded in the year 138 b.C by the roman emperor Décimo Junio Bruto

Basilic of Valencia

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Desamparados is the temple dedicated to the patron saint of the city, which was built between 1652 and 1667. Free entrance. Time to visit 5-10 minutes Opening hours: Monday to Sunday from 7:00 to 14:00 h and from 16:00 to 21:00 h.

Government palace

After visiting the basilic, crossing trought Plaza de la Virgen and walking along Caballeros Street, we arrive to Manises square, where we can see the facade of the government building of Valencia region. This palace is known as “Palau de la Generalitat” in valencian language. The construction of the palace of dates back to 1421.

Serrano's Towers

From Manises Square and following Serrans Street up to the end, we arrive to Serrano's Towers that were built between 1392 and 1398 to protect the city. In the origin, there was a medieval Wall surrounding the city who connected Serrano's Towers with Quart's Towers and much more towers that nowadays does not exist. If you feel with full of energies after our tour, you can climb up to the top. Time to visit around 20-30 minutes. Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00 h and from 16:30 to 20:30 h. Sunday and public holidays from 10:00 to 15:00 h. Monday closed. Price is 2 euro, reduced Price 1 euro, and Sundays free entrance.

Almoina square and museum

Is located in the historic center of the city of Valencia and is considered as the oldest. It was the biggest plaza of roman city, where the forum was situated. There was the first Visigothic basilica, converted after the mosque and later a Christian temple (the cathedral). The whole area of 2,500 meter square includes a glazed area of 300 meter square which lets you view the old Roman hot spring. It is possible to visit the museum if you want, the Price is 2 euro and it lasts 40 minutes, but is better to visit here after lunch time.

Archibishop Palace

The Archbishop's Palace, rebuilt in XX century, only the pointed arches remind of the old and original building from XIII century. Nowadays is the residence of the archibishop of Valencia.

Horchatería Santa Catalina

After our 3 hours and a half visiting the city centre and its most remarkable monuments, it is time to make a break and take energies tasting horchata, the regional valencian drink, sweet and tasty, at Horchatería Santa Catalina, placed in Plaza de Santa Catalina. known as one of the best and oldest horchaterias in the city, Santa Catalina has two centuries of business, also they say "Casa con dos siglos de tradicion" (two centuries tradition home) It’s horchata is so good there, therefore it worth it a visit, highly recommended
