Piran is an old Mediterranean city located at the top of the Piran peninsula in the middle of Piran Bay. The city is like a large open-air museum, with medieval architecture and a very rich cultural heritage. Narrow streets and twisted houses make the city have a charismatic charm. Piran is the administrative center of the region and one of the most important tourist attractions in Slovenia.
The main tourist attractions are the Tartini Square (with a statue of the musician Giuseppe Tartini, a renowned Italian violinist born in the city where there are some of Piran's most important buildings such as the Town Hall, the elegant Venetian gothic house and the birthplace of the musician), the cathedral of Sant Jordi and its bell tower and baptistry, the lighthouse of Saint Climent and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Salud, the church and the cloister of San Francisco, the walls and castle of Piran, the 1st May Square (Trg 1 Maja), a walk through the harbor and promenade and walk calmly through the narrow streets of the historic quarter.
