The visit to Gibraltar, the ancient Muslim Jabal Tarik, is at least curious and fun. In one jump, you go from being in the most smiling Andalusia in the province of Cadiz, to being strolling through a coastal city with all the British traditions, since the beginning of the 18th century.
First you can see the imposing Rock of Gibraltar and after crossing the famous "gate", the first surprise is to cross the airport runways with the car, to enter a coastal city, sandwiched between the port and the "Rock".
We park the car in the International Shopping Center car park and start our walk along Irish Town Street, a typical British pedestrian street dedicated to leisure and gastronomy, with numerous bars and restaurants. From here we go to Main Street, which is the main shopping street in Gibraltar, full of duty-free shops and restaurants. Be careful when paying, in many places they do not accept cards, only cash, being able to pay in euros, but with the excuse of change, they charge you almost double.
Main Street, like all of Gibraltar, has the mixture of British, Andalusian, Moorish, Italian and Jewish cultures.
In this street is the main Catholic church, dating from 1931, in neoclassical style, built on top of the previous church from the time of the Catholic Monarchs, built when the city was conquered.
We continued walking and arrived at the Governor's residence, The Convent, as it was an old Franciscan convent and next to it, The King's Chapel, the King's Chapel, a small Anglican church. Originally it was part of the convent.
We retrace our steps, enjoying shopping and all the British details of the city, Victorian architecture, its pubs, restaurants, the Royal Mail mailboxes, the telephone boxes ... really curious for us.
After touring the two main shopping streets, we ended up eating the typical "fish and chips" on a terrace in Grand Casemate Square.
