Itinerary description
It's a steep climb of over 1000 steps to the top of this Venetian-Ottoman fortress, which actually encompasses eight separate bastions. First built by the Venetians starting in 1712, it was soon taken by the Ottoman Turks, who enlarged it and held it until 1822, when the Turks were overwhelmed by the Greek revolution.
There's an entrance booth and WC near the top of the steps. Admission is normally 4 euro, but it was free the day we went. I wouldn't recommend taking a small child here. There are many precipices with no safety barriers.
The Nafplio Archaeological Museum has an excellent virtual tour of the city: https://www.nafplio-tour.gr/en/map
