This GPS hike takes you along some of the most interesting sights of Ohrid. Although there are small shops and cafe's everywhere, it's a good idea to take a bottle of water with you when you do this walking tour in the summer!
The start is at the square near the harbor. Here you find several statues: Statue of Kiril and Metodi, Statue of St Clement and the Statue of St Naum. On the square there is also the remarkable open-air church St Dimitrija.
A bit further on you pass the Lower Gate. Make sure you look down at the Lower Gate!
A must for Dutch visitors: Cultura 365 and A. Den Doolaard Museum.
The two "hospital churches": St Bogorodica Bolnicka and St Nikola Bolnicki.
Workshop for handmade paper
The Museum of Ohrid in the Robevci House
Church of St Sofija
A small excavation between the Church of St Sofija and the Theater.
The Roman Amphitheater
The Upper Gate
The church of St Bogorodica Perivleptos, opposite to which there is the Icon Gallery. Behind the church you can find the grave of Grigor Prlicev. A bit further is the Church of St Constantine and Helena, but it is almost always closed. There's also another Statue of St Clement.
From here you walk uphill to the Tsar Samuels Fortress, certainly worth the small entrance fee. Great views over Ohrid and the lake!
The archeological site Plaosnik with Church of St Clement. Do not miss the two baptisteries.
Church of St Jovan at Kaneo
Cave Church St Bogorodica
From the wooden walk way over the water you can see and access the Water Gate.
From here you walk back to the starting point. If you still have some energy, continue the walk through the shopping street, towards the square with the 900-year old plane tree.
Zyenel Abedin-Pasha Mosque
Ali Pasha Mosque
From the square it is not far to the Church of St Bogorodica Kamenska and the Clock Tower, but this GPS track does not take you there exactly.
If it is not too late in the afternoon, check out the market as well...So many fresh fruit and vegetables! In addition to the food, basically anything you need in and around the house can be bought here.
Now walk back to the square and grab a cold Skopsko beer on one of the many terraces!

Ohrid is amazing, especially Sv. Bogorodiza Perivlepta. The local guide who sells the candles can tell you everything about the well preserved paintings on the walls in English. The paintings were hidden behind a black layer of grime from centuries of burned candles and only recovered in the 20th century. It took seven years to clean the walls, which were completely black. Next to the entrance you can still see a small black patch from this former condition
Thanks for your reviews of my trails Melt81! I guess you are talking about the very enthusiastic guide with the raven-black hair in St Bogorodica, she's great indeed! Sorry to read in one of your other reviews that you are affected by the ban on hiking in Macedonia in August 2021 due to forest fires. We were lucky to be in Macedonia in July this year and left just before the fires started. Cheers, Dennis
