Sauraha is a village in the Chitwan district of Nepal located near the Rapti River and the Chitwan National Park. It is the gateway to the east of the Chitwan National Park.
Starting literally as a small and very picturesque Tharu village of huts and adobe and mud houses, it has grown into a small, quiet town full of Western-style hotels, restaurants, cybercafes and gift shops.
There are no asphalt roads here, only dirt tracks / mud and almost no traffic. Life is quiet here.
The village of Sauraha is separated from the national park by the Rapti river.
A fast growing but small town that caters to the needs of visitors to the Chitwan National Park, the most famous safari park in Nepal. It is 160 km by road from Kathmandu, 155 km by road from Pokhara and 160 km by road from the Indian border in Sunauli.
In the area you will find:
- The Elephant Reproduction Center
- The Tharu Cultural Museum
- Devghat, a Hindu pilgrimage site, where several temples and sacred caverns are found.
